Fishing Waders Care, Transportation & Storage

Good quality waders can last for years if properly cared for.
To prolong their life, make sure to rinse them off and dry them after every use.
Additionally, store them correctly by hanging them by their heels and repairing any punctures, cracks, or tears. Don’t forget to keep your toenails short. Following these tips, along with the manufacturer’s care instructions, will ensure your waders serve you well for a long time.

When transporting them, roll waders instead of folding to avoid creases, which can create weak points and lead to tears over time. Improper transport or storage may void the warranty, so be careful. Avoid letting your waders sit in direct sunlight before or after use, and never leave them wet and dirty in your car overnight. If you need a good way to store them, we recommend getting a Wader-specific hanger.

For long-term storage, keep them either flat or hanging, as folding may stress seams and create creases, resulting in leaks.
When storing for winter, ensure they are completely clean and dry, and store them indoors, away from the elements.
Waxing the exterior is a good idea, as it creates a barrier between the rubber surface and the elements, preventing dry rot.
You can even apply Vaseline on top, just be sure to wipe off any excess.
If storing in a shed or garage, don’t leave them in a box on the floor—waders can attract mice during cold months.

If using them in saltwater, rinse thoroughly with fresh water after each use. Saltwater is corrosive and can affect the integrity and breathability of the fabric, shortening their lifespan. Always allow waders to dry completely before storing them.

Letting them dry thoroughly is critical; otherwise, mould may form.
Mould doesn’t require much moisture to grow and can destroy perfectly good waders by affecting breathability, damaging the membrane, causing odors, and loosening the tape on seams, which leads to leaks.

How do you dry waders?
Air drying is the best solution. Turn them inside out and hang them by the heels to dry overnight, protecting the inner lining and helping them maintain shape.
